Dissolving Lust Means a Change in Self-Identity (121)

Identity of Lust

When lust is in control of our human machine there is a certain identity that we assume and of course project for others to perceive. It is not important that others perceive what we project, what is more important, is that we perceive that identity and work on it to change it.

The identity varies but here are some of the typical identities that lust has and we assume when we identify with lust. It is an identity of a player, a person who goes from person to person trying to get something for free from that person. We become like a predator or a Don Juan. We may assume the identity of a needy person, a person needing affection, or a temptress, a seducer etc. etc.

Change Identity

To dissolve lust we need to change identity, we need to stop seeing ourselves as someone who is only on the lookout for a pleasurable opportunity. Even though lust hates the identity of a responsible person we have to become that to be able to overcome lust. If we fully assume the responsibility of a responsible person, a good doctor, a good priest, a good husband, a good father, a good mother, a good lawyer, a good worker, a good and sincere Gnostic, Muslim, Christian etc. there is no place for lust.

How Lust Ruins Our Lives

Lust gives us all these identities and we have to not identify with them, we have to not see ourselves that way and to see ourselves as a responsible person with the responsibilities that we have, because without exception we all have our responsibilities. The worst thing that lust does, is through its identity that we make the mistake of assuming, it forces us to neglect our responsibilities and become a bad father or mother, worker, friend etc. It robs our life, our reputation, everything if we allow it.

Secret Double Life - Hypocrisy

It can even force us into a secret double life where we live a s a corrupt person, as an insincere person and as a hypocrite. We are often forced into situations of giving people against lust but secretly we are just the same or worse.

Conclusion

Lust robs our real identity and gives us another one, that of course is false and is very convenient to get what it needs. We basically do what we think we are. Lust really needs that we adopt its projected identity and if we don’t we are taking a great step in overcoming it.

End (121).
