Prana and Us

In the Individual

Prana is in the individual, for example a person. Everyone comes to life with a certain amount of prana and we can maintain it, increase it or decrease it according to the food we eat, the air we breathe, the thoughts we think and the life we lead. When we die the prana that has been accumulated in the body leaves, if it were to stay perhaps the body would not decompose, or at least decompose at a slower than normal rate. We die because essentially prana, leaves the body, so in the end prana is that which gives us life and sustains our life.

A Prani

An individual is called a prani because he or she has prana and consciousness. Prana is the greatest friend an individual has. It comes as an aid, because it is the cosmic Christ it comes to everyone as an aid to help everyone and as the Cosmic Christ always does it comes to us so to save us. In particular prana allows the energy we need to fabricate soul and with soul we may free ourselves from Samsara and reach the self-realisation.

Kosha

The yogis say that prana in a person projects itself or collects in what they call pranayama kosha which can be thought of a pranic field which is of course subtler than the physical body. Thanks to Kirlian photography this halo or pranic field that surrounds people can be seen.

Nadis

In the pranic field or pranic body, prana flows through nadis which are energy channels and is stored in the chakras which are energy vortices. The Vedic scriptures say that there are 72 000 nadis and six main chakras. Gnosis on the other hand says that there are many chakras however the main ones are seven in number. Some other branches of the Vedic sciences say that there are seven main chakras as well.

Ayruveda

Prana as we have been examining it comes from Vedeantic philosophy, Hinduism, yoga and features prominently in Ayruveda. In Ayruveda prana in its most subtle material form is the breath. It is also found in the blood and its most concentrated from is in the semen and vaginal fluids. In Ayruveda the sun and sunshine are also sources of prana. Prana also has a cosmic aspect as well.

Prana and Breath

Prana enters the body through the breath or is liberated from the sexual energy and travels through the nadis or channels in the body and is stored in the chakras. The Hindus say that we have 72 000 nadis in the human body.
