Introduction – A Curious Observation
After some observation it seems that the effect of laziness
is to always stop the flow of progress or the continuity of work progressive or
not, on a project. Whenever we are working on something that requires the input
of continuous effort over several days, weeks, months or even years, laziness
is ever present.
Role or Function
The role or function of laziness is as we know, is all about
resting, and that is true in any project or continuous work the law or rest and
repose is present, so is the law of work or activity. The overall balance in
any work is the choice of progress and completion. So the function of the law
of rest and repose must not be the dominant one but must be there to complement
the law of work. That is rest to replenish forces and ideas so to continue and
work more efficiently.
Laziness is really that principle of rest and repose but
exaggerated or taken out of the instincts or natural order and put into the
mind where it goes out of proportion and becomes anti-progress or stagnation.
Hypnotic Grip
The hypnotic grip of laziness is always to convince us that
we are tired and that we need to rest now and that we can work later. Of course
when we do we lose the flow of work to be done and our progress gets delayed.
Most of the time we are not tired, it only appears that way. If we were to just
follow our instinctive centre we would not be lazy, but we follow the mind and
we get it wrong.
Laziness Stops Progress
Laziness is against continuous progress. If the creators
were lazy we would not have creation as complete as it is today. Nature is
quite laborious; just observe how much effort the animals go to survive.
Setting a rest period is necessary, and this is where laziness
steps. Laziness being in the mind is one sided and out of proportion and so it
gets things wrong and ends up as being an obstacle to our creations and progress.
Laziness Stops Creation and Life
Laziness stops creation! If we were all lazy creation or
life would go into a steep decline. Laziness is there to break the continuous
flow of work to be done. It is the opposite of the laboriousness needed to work
in our creations, projects and spiritual work. It is a destructive ego as well.
Overcome Laziness
The right thing to do is to work and enjoy working and love
working but when necessary rest to recover strength, ideas so as to be able to
work better. That is the right perspective on work and rest and so laziness
becomes redundant, when we follow the instinct centre. When our work efforts become
fruitless it is time to rest.
Conclusion
Laziness exists when there is a flow or line of work to be followed
and carried out. It will always appear then. The way to step over laziness is to
not believe that we need a rest just right now but later on after working. So work
first then rest. Resting after working is delicious. Though resting out of
laziness is guilt and that which gives you a headache and makes you strangely
fatigued.
