About Pleasure – (489)

With Pleasure Comes Fear

With pleasure comes fear, the fear that the pleasure will come to an end. When there is pleasure there is always that particular fear. Pleasure by its nature must have an end. Pleasure can not continue forever without an end. It is certainly subject to a start and a beginning.

While Experiencing Pleasure

While experiencing pleasure there is that feeling of anxiety that comes from our attachment to the pleasure when we know that it is going to end.

What is much better is joy! Joy comes from the consciousness and fear and anxiety is not inherent in joy.

Best Way to Approach Pleasure is with Detachment

The best way to approach pleasure is with detachment. We are even when pleasure arrives and we are even when pleasure stops. There is no great expectation and over exaggeration nor is there any sadness or anxiety when the pleasure is about to end.

Detachment produces moderation and that is something that is very good, because after pleasure comes usually pain.

Pleasure is of the Mind and Senses

Pleasure is of the senses and of the mind and emotions. We experience pleasure more with the emotions, and of course there has to be pleasant sensations involved. Sometimes the sensations evoke the emotions and sometimes the pleasure is more emotional than anything else. For there to be pleasure in the emotional centre there must be a positive perception or outlook in the mind first.
