The symbol of the serpent or the snake is very esoteric.
A snake represents the Kundalini which is an aspect of the Divine mother. Within the Kundalini there is fire, consciousness, light and much cosmic energy of life.
To see a snake or serpent in a dream could be representative of the Kundulini or representative of the opposite - the Kundabuffer.
Any ego, especially an ego of lust can be symbolised by a snake. Perhaps a dark coloured snake.
The quality of the snake shows us how much of the opposite of the Kundalimi is in that ego.
Using the context of the dream and common sense one can discern which one the snake symbolises, either the Kundalini, Kunderbuffer or an ego.
In esotericism the snake also represents wisdom as in the ouroboris, the serpent that devours its own tail. This means consummation, the completed, self-realised Being maintained from itself. This is also a symbol of the wisdom and consciousness of the Absolute maintaining itself.
End (2295).
