Power of Changing Associated Images – (2604)

Anecdote from an Engineer

Modern large and heavy machinery these days incorporate a mixture of automatic and manual lubrication systems, where an electric pump builds up pressure in the lubrication delivery lines so that a metered shot of lubricant can be delivered to the machine’s moving parts. Furthermore, in relation to the mechanical lubrication system there are lubrication nipples through which grease can be injected into to deliver the grease to moving parts located inside a mechanical assembly.

So, this engineer upon having to work on such systems was always laughing and grinning. Why? All because of the images that were appearing in his mind. Obviously, he was associating those technical words with sex and all the junk he had in his mind related to sex.

The interesting thing was that the more he worked on these systems he began to change the images that appeared in his mind, until one day whenever he heard the words lubrication nipple, auto lubrication, manual lubrication he would only see heavy machinery in his mind.

Heavy Mining Machinery, Rio Tinto Iron Ship Loader in action. An exercise to watch the associations.

Comments

This anecdote shows how important the mental images we have in our mind are. What's more important is what those images get associated with. Depending on what we associate those images with is how we are going to react! This is really critical.

A part of our mental housework is to review the images that we have in our mind.

Conclusion

Associations are very powerful and if we can change the images that appear in our mind we change our reactions and the egos that get brought up.

We react based largely on the images that arise in our mind! We can change our reactions and attitudes so much by deleting the images in our mind and what changing the images that we associate associate with certain words, events, people, places, activities etc.

End (2604).
