We may find ourselves having difficulty trying to define ourselves for the death of an ego. This may really worry us. Don't despair - all is not lost, there is a remedy.
The remedy is to work on facets or small parts of that ego which we find ourselves ready and capable to dissolve.
For example, if we take anger, we may be very happy to dissolve the part of anger that swears. But yet we feel incapable of dissolving the whole big block of anger. Somehow we need it or rely on it or whatever it is - we just feel we are not capable to dissolve it yet.
If we work on these small parts of anger we will end up weakening the defect of anger and the "I's" of anger that characterise it. One day soon due to the work that we have been doing we will be ready to dissolve the defect or the big "I's" of anger.
The big "I's" all feed off the smaller ones. If we have been taking down that ego piece by piece we will find ourselves pretty much ready to take the great leap and seriously work to take down the big block. By the way when we do decide to do that it will be easier as we have taken a lot of supply lines from it already.
The ego is like a tree that feeds through its roots, many of which are small. So taking away these roots makes the tree really weak and unable to feed.

There is a common saying that goes: "How do you eat an Elephant?" with the answer being one bight at a time.
End (3174).
