About Idols – (1578)

Introduction

The events of the last couple of weeks here in this city has made me reflect a little about what an idol is.

An Idol

“An idol is an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed or any person or thing regarded with admiration, adoration, or devotion.”

Idols Should Be Analysed

If we have an idol we can submit our idol to some analysis so as to not have any unreal expectations and to see more of the reality of the idol.

Doing this brings a more realistic and balanced view of the idol. Also a healthier respect and admiration can be gained, plus some emotional suffering can be avoided.

Speaking in terms of the esoteric work we can use an analysis to see what values our idol extols and what benefit does the person we idol bring to us in all the senses, especially psychologically and esoterically (spiritually).

Note, the above applies more to idols within the fields of normal life such as sport, movies, music, literature, politics etc.

Not to Forget Oneself

Commonly the problem with idols is that human beings forget themselves before their idol. Even if their idol is a spiritual master.

In forgetting themselves they quickly lose control of their emotions and display in front of their idol instances of crazed affection, which go against the dignity of the person, scare the idol and cause security to step in.

We Have Idols Mostly Because of Our Self-Importance

When we have an idol in the common way we dream. We fantasize thinking that our idol will call us, wave to us, say hello or do something, but it is most likely not going to happen. There are just so many that the poor idol can't single out any one of them.

How can they know and why would such a person so sheltered and so accustomed to luxury, come down to see us and give us money? This is to really dream.

The “I” of self-importance just wants to be important to the idol or to share something with their idol. Essentially to be a part of the idol’s life or share something with their idol.

Role of an Idol

The role of an idol in ourselves is for that person (our idol) to be the living example of some values that we want to incarnate or develop. So our idol within us has to be something that always inspires us to achieve these values.

Clay Idols Crumble

There in society now days so many clay idols are crumbling and this is good and bad in a way. Many sports men and women, that people idol, turn out to be the opposite of good role models. Especially when it comes to AFL (Australian Rules Football) here in Australia, it has turned out that sooner or later we hear in the news of this player taking drugs and doing this and getting in trouble with the police here and there and the other is in jail and another died from a drug overdose etc. etc.

In these times it is very common that all these ‘clay idols’ crumble. Which is good in the sense that it can help many people to open their eyes to the current state of humanity and bad because it can leave many people with nothing to aspire to or reference themselves against, and so they will very easily go wayward. It is much better to have young children dedicated to their sport trying to be like their idol than on the streets bored, depressed and looking for distraction in drugs, sex, vandalism and violence.

End (1578).

Attention with Mind, Attention with Essence - (5197)

These two attentions are different. Attention with the mind tires the brain. and reduces the flow of life into steps, where it is inevitable that the narration of the mind begins to take over. With the awareness of steps comes a certain tediousness and the feeling of the flow of life leaving us behind. With the attention of mind very little of what's behind events comes to us... Attention with the essence brings the power of presence, in other words brings a certain depth and continuity of flow  Attention with the essence doesn't tire or strain and opens doorways into perceiving what is behind events and the thoughts and feelings that appear within us. It allows us also to flow with the flow of life, which is a pleasant feeling. Conclusion, make the essence bring attention to outer and inner life. End (5197).

The Sacred Substance Askokin - (962)

Introduction In simple terms, the sacred Askokin substance is the result of the mercury and the sulphur. It is the transmuted energy that crystallises to form the internal bodies (astral, mental and causal). In other words, it is the transmutation of our sexual energies. The Abrustdonis’ and ‘Helkdonis that Gurdjieff mentions in the excerpt below, taken from “Belzeebub’s Tales to His Grandson” are none other than the elements of mercury and the sulphur so spoken about in Alchemy. Excerpt on the Sacred Substance Askokin “I first learned that the destiny of beings arising on this planet of yours is chiefly to elaborate—by means of the process of their existence—the vibrations required by Nature for the maintenance of those former parts of the planet now called Moon and Anulios, when, do you remember, I became worthy personally to converse for the second time with His Conformity the then still Angel, but now Archan...

Wisdom from the Movie “Kingdom of Heaven” - (2168)

Introduction There are some movies that leave you with some pieces of advice that at point or another in your life or in the lives of others prove useful. This movie: “Kingdom of Heaven” was terrible to watch (too many battle scenes and people dying) but offered some very useful messages. In this post, I have presented a few, that have come in handy at point or another. Just to give you a bit of context, the movie is about the crusades, where the French and English were trying to defend the “Holy City” – Jerusalem from Islamic occupation. The topic of religion and God is a constant theme in the movie. It is very violent though, matching it frankly, quite awful to watch. Your Soul is in Your Keeping Alone An interesting dialogue between the French appointed king of Jerusalem and French Knight, the protagonist of the movie. Note, the king wears that metal mask because he has leprosy. King Baldwin I...
