Introduction
When it comes to the very big egos in us, our work first and
foremost is to not do what that ego wants and weather the storms that follow.
Storms
In the storms, the ego will protest using its beguiling
reasoning, its compelling emotions and its forceful will. It will also bring all sorts
of restless and uncomfortable sensations and flavours to be felt in the body.
Whatever the storm is about, even if it is about wanting
something, that desire storm is going to pass. We have to batten down the
hatches and weather the storm until it subsides.
Batten Down the Hatches
We can batten down the hatches by doing our best to change
centres and not feed the ego intellectually or emotionally and in action. This is
hard, but it is the surest way to weaken this ego and therefore to make its disappearance
to begin. Also observe as keenly as possible to gain more comprehension about
the ego provoking the storm.
With time the storms will diminish and for the dissolution of
this ego to progress, the work on the concepts that this ego has, its emotions and its actions must be
intensified liberating more comprehension.
One Up
The main thing I wanted to get through in this post is that
the first line of working on the ego is doing the opposite and weathering the storms
of it not being able to do what it is that it wants to do.
These storms can be painful, they may make us feel unwell,
restless and very upset and unapproachable but they pass and when they have
passed we know that we are one up on it and we can do it again the next time it
brings on a storm and the next time and the next time until the storms peter
out.
End (1595).
