Introduction
This is the second step to do with using our consciousness or
remaining as awake as we can be or keeping our consciousness active.
Separating
This step is where we really free or detach our consciousness
from the influence of eh ego and the subconscious.
Here we notice a distinct separation, there is a part of our
awareness distinct and separate from the activities of the ego in our
psychology.
We can feel ourselves to be in our awareness and then we can
look down upon on the ego processing itself in our psychology, i.e. in our mind
and subconsciousness.
How is it Done
Separating the consciousness is done via attention. As soon
as we subtract our attention from the egoic processes we are starting to separate
our consciousness. Our consciousness always follows our attention.
If our attention is removed from the ego and placed onto
awareness itself, we are almost done. We have to keep it there.
A Major Help
Knowing that an ego is present is also a major help. Knowing
about the ego, its nature, how it will soon pass, how it is mechanical, what it
wants, how dissatisfying it is etc. all helps us to remove our attention from
it. Knowing that we are alright without it helps immensely and allows us the
umpf to separate our consciousness from it, so that it can’t make what we have of
consciousness to fall asleep.
