Five Things that you can’t Change – (1604)

Introduction

I learnt something very interesting the other day while listening to an audio book in the car. It is a book written by David Richo, who is a Buddhist psychotherapist. He says that through all his years of practice there seem to be five things that are a given in the lives of all people. He says that these five things are things that happen in life and can’t be avoided in anyone’s life.

The Five Things

One

Everything has a beginning and an end.

Two

Plans change.

Three

People are not always loving and kind.

Four

Life is not always fair.

Five

Life contains pain.

Interesting

What do you reckon. I find it quite interesting and much of our psychological work centres around the problems that our own egos have when these five things happen to us.

Conclusion

This could be a point of work for us to one day. To actually focus on these five things and see how we with the various egos that we have difficulty in accepting and living with these five things that happen.

Really, these five things don’t hurt, what hurts is us not being able to accept or cope with them.

End (1604).
