There are several egos that use our imagination so spontaneously and with such ease.
When we want to consciously use our imagination we find it tedious. It feels tedious because it requires more will to concentrate and it also requires organisation - a logical coherence in the sequence of images that we imagine.
The ego uses the imagination to project a memory, then it puts an emotion on top of that image. The image is just a flash but the emotion lasts longer.
It is like the ego acts on the image or uses the image to extend its emotion.
Egos that like to use the imagination this way are anger, lust, envy, resentment to name some of the big ones.
The ego just flashes up images without coherence and its will is to superimpose existing emotions onto it, which is really the opposite of conscious imagination.
We need to really control our imagination. If we can do that we can understand more how the ego works, and what it really wants. We think that the ego wants something external but what it really wants is its own expression.
This is a terrific realisation, because if the ego just wants itself, then the essence itself through self-remembering can fill what is missing.
End (2992).
