Two ways to put pressure on yourself: consciously and unconsciously.
We have to put pressure on ourselves to change. When we have a reason and a goal that is objective, that is spiritual that is for our betterment, the pressure we apply on ourselves is conscious.
When we are motivated by the subconscious or by some egoical desire the pressure we apply on ourselves to be a certain way is not fully conscious and things that are not fully conscious produce adverse results. That is results that we may not have wished for or hoped for.
Usually those adverse results are a kind of suffering, inner conflict, inner confusion, unhappiness, stress, distancing from ourselves, lack of remembering of ourselves, a lack of being at peace with ourselves and a loss of certain values that we have...
