Buddhism, Hinduism - Yes But Not Christianity

We all know that the buddhists believe in successive existences. Note, in Gnosis we make a differentiation between successive existences and reincarnation. We reserve the term reincarnation for when a self-realised Being decides to return tot eh Earth in order to fulfill a spiritual mission.

In Hinduism that of successive existences is also believed in and even known about.

Christianity Did Once Believe in Successive Lives

It seems that the majority of religions other than Christianity take on board that of successive lives. However this was not always the case.

It is said that in AD553 the Emperor Justinian ruled the teaching of successive lives be removed from the Christian doctrine. It was declared a heresy to believe in the doctrine of successive lives.

Before Justinian made this decree there were universities dedicated to the study of previous lives. One such university was the University of Athens that was burnt down in 529AD.

This was done I believe to retrain power in the church and to bolster the church's power over people.

End (2869).
