Introduction
Self-remembering is really the right way of being. Self-Remembering
is more than just a practice, for example that we might do for an hour a day. It
is something to live in.
But the reality is that we can’t, given the egos that we have,
our development of consciousness, our life circumstances, our activities etc. But
there is nothing to stop us from trying, and actually improving in duration, frequency
and quality.
Self-Remembering is better termed as “Remembering of the Being”.
This term is more self-explanatory and reveals to us more accurately what self-remembering
is really about.
Some Elements of Self-Remembering
Relaxation
The very important number one element in self-remembering is
relaxation. Both of the body and the mind.
While our body is tense and our psychology stressed we can’t
enter into ourselves, and any attempt at self-remembering won’t last longer than
a few seconds.
When we meditate or when undergoing therapy of some sort we
relax or we are taken through a relation process. This is because for
introspection relaxation is fundamental.
If you don’t quite believe me just try to go inside yourself
being tense in body and agitated and stressed in psychology.
Passive Personality
Making our personality passive is a very important element. Fundamental
I would say. If our personality is active it is again very difficult to remember
our Being.
Our personality is a layer that serves as an obstacle
between our essence (us) and our Real Being.
In the later stages of the path, in the second mountain to
be more specific, the task of working to dissolve what remains of the human
personality and the solar personality which is the personality of the person as
a Master. Once this is done there is direct contact with the Being with no
intermediary or obstacle.
As we have the personality, the way of dealing with it, so
that it is not an obstacle to self-remembering is making it passive.
We make our personality passive by relaxing our body and our
mind. Especially concentrating on letting go of preoccupations, thoughts about
other people, thoughts about the issues and events of life.
Contrast
This is another crucial element. Self-remembering or
remembering the Being in us is always a decision or a choice. This is because it
is something conscious and to do it we have to decide to do it.
We have in front of us always two options, the horizontal
and the vertical. The horizontal is life, personality and the ego and the vertical
is remembering of the Being.
If we bring the two options together in the moment of choice
and see what each will give us, then we can decide. This bringing of the two
options together is contrast.
Contrast helps us to decide because it liberates a mini
spark of light. That mini spark of light is a tiny new revelation or a tiny new
spark of comprehension.
If we don’t contrast we don’t give ourselves the opportunity
to enter into the remembering of the Being.
Non-Identification
This is paramount. We have to know our identity as an
essence that is connected to an inner Divinity that has the power ‘to be’. We
have to know that we are consciousness or awareness and that comes from that
special power ‘to be’ within us.
To self-remember we have to adopt that identity, if adopt or
assume any other identity, such as the identity of one or any other ego we can’t
remember our Being very well at all. We actually will when trying to remember
our Being in this state of identification with an ego, end up strengthening the
ego that we are identified with. The best is to make an effort to displace it
and then start your remembering of the Being.
Direct Contact or Perception
To be in remembering of our Being all about direct contact
or direct perception of that fount or current of life within us or if we like
in other words: that special power that is the power of presence and the power ‘to
be’.
This is very different to us just remembering an image of a
wise old man in our mind, that we may have seen in a dream or conjured up in
our imagination one day.
Using our essence to make direct contact with the Being is in
us is what we need. To do that we must know we are the essence, feel the essence
and then focus the essence on that fount of life or power of ‘being’ in us.
Perception of the Flow of Life
This is another element that is very helpful yet not crucial.
If we remember that our life has a flow to it, an order, a sequence, a
direction which sets the right moment for everything we can go inside of ourselves
and with our essence perceive it or make contact with it and then trust in it
and relax.
This helps because when we don’t see it or feel it we become
obsessed with ‘doing’ and we do many unnecessary things and waste a lot of energy
and time, worrying. The flow of life set by our inner Divinity sets the right
moment for everything, protects us and guides us to do what is most required
for our inner work and our outer life.
Higher Centres
A consequence of remembering the Being is the activation of
the higher intellectual and emotional centres is us.
When we stop thinking our higher intellectual centre becomes
active and in turn that acticates th our higher emotional centre and that
produces feelings of bliss, happiness, deep relaxation, security, trust,
gratitude,
Continuous Effort to Reach Deeper Levels with Self-Remembering
It is good to try an add an octave to our remembering of the
Being. To perceive deeper within ourselves and to relax into the deeper levels
of our mind to perceive our subconscious.
Conclusion
The main elements are: relaxation, passive personality,
contrast and non-identification. We have to practice and practice as often and
for as long as we can.
Master Samael said that the most fundamental practice of any
Gnostic is daily relaxation and the Remembering of the Being.
This is our staple intake of spiritual contact and nourishment.
End (1270).
