The Five Hinderances in meditation are:
1.) Ill-Will
2.) Sensory Desire
3.) Restlessness and Worry
4.) Doubt
5.) Sloth and Torpor
That is so true, we all experience these classical hinderances in our practice of meditation.
No doubt we have to overcome them to meditate, that is to arrive at a stable and steady state of mindfulness.
Gnosis says that we need to overcome these hinderances and also to eliminate them. In Gnosis we know that the five hindrances come from certain psychological "I's" that we carry within our psychology.
Eliminating them directly gives us the ability to concentrate.
