We get hurt and we think about the ego and think about the reasons and all that stuff. This only sinks our ship into deeper mental battling and therefore unhappiness.
Use inquiry instead. To inquire deeply is to work on yourself and it is to cut through the thick clouds of the ego in our mind.
Ask vehemently what is true abut what the ego is presenting and arguing about in our mind.
This type of inquiry causes the mind to step down a few notches, then clarity can emerge as the questions asked with determination cuts through the discursive thinking about the ego and the issue it is upset about.
