The teachings say that Kundalini is the origin of sound.
Sound was present at the beginning of the cosmos says the esoteric teachings. Before there was light.
The supreme consciousness Shiva expressed as intelligence united with Shakti and formed the word, which is the union of energy and intelligence and together they - the word created the cosmos - all the galaxies, solar systems, planets and human beings.
If there's sound there's vibration and if there is vibration there is energy. Something has to be supplying this energy. This energy is supplied by and is Shakti.
Shakti is the divine feminine energy that is present in the coccyx or Muladhara chakra rather of every human being, and is what we know as Kundalini.
When we chant a mantra we are working with sound of course, but also with the energy of Kundalini, but indirectly.
