Boredom – An Ego to Be Weary of - (1161)

Introduction

I’m not too sure if boredom is an ego or some kind of negative internal state. Either way it is not of the consciousness or essence.

Whichever one it is, it is worth investigating, as one of its major properties is to use other egos for its purpose. Thus providing a constant impetus for their manifestation.

Boredom

Boredom is a kind of inner void or emptiness. It is a kind of apathy combined with a kind of unhappiness.

It is associated with laziness and pride. The “can’t be bothered” and “I don’t feel like it” attitudes in boredom come from laziness, and the inconformity and “nothing is good enough” or “what I have in front of me in not good enough – boring!” attitudes come from pride.

Cause of Boredom

Things don’t make us bored, it is more that boredom comes from within. It is due to our lack of consciousness.

On the surface boredom seems to be due to that pride and laziness mentioned above, if we go beyond these two factors we find that emptiness, and now diving into that emptiness we find that it is due to a lack of consciousness.

The consciousness is the novel, the new and the enlightening discovery of the meaning of the most mundane things. Remember how Jesus marvelled at the whiteness of the front tooth of a dead dog by the street.

Uses Other Egos

The function of boredom seeing it an ego, is to bring to us the newness which if we had our consciousness it would bring to us. Boredom tries to do this using different egos and this can be dangerous. As the bible says: “idle hands are the devil’s workshop”.

Function of Boredom

Boredom tries to bring to us the new, the novel, the interesting, the sensational, basically all that the consciousness brings us. It tries to substitute the new discovery, fulfilment and happiness of the consciousness, and to do this it brings the egos that specialise in this, however they specialise in this through matter. These egos are gluttony, lust and greed. There could be other ones but these are the main three. Lust of course is the most dangerous, followed by greed then gluttony.

The most interesting thing is that this can seem like very logical and very normal and it is almost like we are consciously opting to do this. It is a strong kind strange identification, different than when we identify with other egos. Fixing boredom with other egos for some reason it does not seem as wrong. But the results how the opposite very quickly.

What Happens When Alone

To see how true this is in your case just observer what you do when you find yourself at home alone and you are bored. You may eat new and interesting things or things that you like, you may try to watch interesting or sensational things on TV or the internet, you may go into lust, you try to meet new people in person or online, you may try to acquire things by shopping, downloading etc. etc.

Idle Hands are the Devil’s Workshop

This ego is quite dangerous, we never know how many wrong things have been done just o remove boredom. Wrong things are exciting and different for most people and hence it is the perfect way to relieve boredom, but it is the wrong way, the resulting karma will tell us.

Boredom Shows Us Interesting Things About Ourselves

Basically, boredom ends up acting to bring us new pleasures from whatever source, the sources are basically the pleasure seeking that in us are the strongest. So then boredom shows us which egos are the strongest in us. Line them up and fire away!

Remedy

When bored we have to seek our consciousness to fill that void itself. When that happens we feel entirely different.

A way to bring the consciousness is to focus on it, or focus on the now, or look inwards and make an effort be immersed in the inner silence that dwells within you.

The mantra GATE GATE PARA-GATE PARA-SAM-GATE BODI SWAHA is so effective at quietening down the mind thus allowing our essence to appear and fill the void of boredom.

End (1161).

Attention with Mind, Attention with Essence - (5197)

These two attentions are different. Attention with the mind tires the brain. and reduces the flow of life into steps, where it is inevitable that the narration of the mind begins to take over. With the awareness of steps comes a certain tediousness and the feeling of the flow of life leaving us behind. With the attention of mind very little of what's behind events comes to us... Attention with the essence brings the power of presence, in other words brings a certain depth and continuity of flow  Attention with the essence doesn't tire or strain and opens doorways into perceiving what is behind events and the thoughts and feelings that appear within us. It allows us also to flow with the flow of life, which is a pleasant feeling. Conclusion, make the essence bring attention to outer and inner life. End (5197).

The Sacred Substance Askokin - (962)

Introduction In simple terms, the sacred Askokin substance is the result of the mercury and the sulphur. It is the transmuted energy that crystallises to form the internal bodies (astral, mental and causal). In other words, it is the transmutation of our sexual energies. The Abrustdonis’ and ‘Helkdonis that Gurdjieff mentions in the excerpt below, taken from “Belzeebub’s Tales to His Grandson” are none other than the elements of mercury and the sulphur so spoken about in Alchemy. Excerpt on the Sacred Substance Askokin “I first learned that the destiny of beings arising on this planet of yours is chiefly to elaborate—by means of the process of their existence—the vibrations required by Nature for the maintenance of those former parts of the planet now called Moon and Anulios, when, do you remember, I became worthy personally to converse for the second time with His Conformity the then still Angel, but now Archan...

Wisdom from the Movie “Kingdom of Heaven” - (2168)

Introduction There are some movies that leave you with some pieces of advice that at point or another in your life or in the lives of others prove useful. This movie: “Kingdom of Heaven” was terrible to watch (too many battle scenes and people dying) but offered some very useful messages. In this post, I have presented a few, that have come in handy at point or another. Just to give you a bit of context, the movie is about the crusades, where the French and English were trying to defend the “Holy City” – Jerusalem from Islamic occupation. The topic of religion and God is a constant theme in the movie. It is very violent though, matching it frankly, quite awful to watch. Your Soul is in Your Keeping Alone An interesting dialogue between the French appointed king of Jerusalem and French Knight, the protagonist of the movie. Note, the king wears that metal mask because he has leprosy. King Baldwin I...
