Liberating Pain - (1172)

Introduction

This post and the posts to follow are notes taken from a very inspired retreat given by my marvellous missionary on the topic of liberating pain and awakening consciousness.

He outlined five points to do with liberating pain. My aim is that this and subsequent posts cover these five pints.

Please note, this is not about physical pain, but emotional, intellectual and psychological related pain.

Point 1 – Pain Comes from Inside not from Outside

Pain is caused from something inside of us. We have the cause of pain inside of us.

We have to be responsible for our own pain! Not make others responsible!

Karma is self-punishment. We are the ones that create our own pain. Because we have caused other pain we create the cause of our own pain within us!

Cycle of Pain Implies a Sender and a Receiver

The cycle of pain needs two parties, one is a receiver and the other is a sender.

We need to stop causing pain, we need to work on controlling our word and not acting against others.
To first step is stop pain from entering our lives is to refrain from causing others pain!

We should stop creating karma.

Point 2 – Pain is Essentially Emotional

Pain is something nearly all emotional. It effects the emotion more than anything else.

Point 3 – About Values and the Use of Values

Pain is about values. To liberate pain means that pain has been trapped within us and it needs to be freed.

The whole key of pain is to sever its will! However, this is not so easy and requires a practical psychology.

Let’s see what causes us pain and why?

The ego of self-love, which is the ego that loves itself is a major contributor of pain! Let’s see why does it get hurt? What are the reasons for that pain that it feels?

We have to find an answer to those questions. If we do will be closer to freeing up the pain that we have inside. Obviously, the pain of self-love is due to a value having been lost, degraded, eroded or destroyed within us. That value is usually the affection, love, respect, regard etc. that we receive from others.

Pain is related to our vested interests. Pain is a very selfish ego, it only thinks from its point of view.

End (1172).
