A Mysterious Club
I remember now, once listening to an audio book where the author quoted Eric Clapton saying (I am paraphrasing here) to the effect that when Eric Clapton got drunk for the first time he felt that he had joined some mysterious club. As some of you may know Eric Clapton was a terrible alcoholic but as far I know, he has recovered.
Of course no such mysterious club exists in reality, it is a false feeling generated by the ego. A thief, an adulterer, a murderer, a petty criminal, a convict, an ex-convict, even just a normal person feels that they at times belong to some mysterious lonely or exclusive world wide club.
Even the ego likes to create clubs for everything. There are as many clubs as there are egos it seems. There is the knitting club, the remote control car racing club, the medieval re-enactment club, the Polish club, the German club etc., the Mont Blanc pen owner's club and the list goes on and on.
Esoteric Clubs
But mind you there are also esoteric orders or clubs, whose members do not have egos. So a club is not wrong, it is all once again about how it is used. Why a Club?
Basically a club for good or bad is a way of enriching, organising and strengthening the various common or similar aims of a group of people. When the ego uses a club it uses it as a way of feeding its interests and keeping itself alive.
Why the Mysterious Club Feeling of the Ego?
This is because the ego feels alone and in some strange way different for having done what it has done. In some way it feels special for having rebelled against the law, the norms and people. This combination of factors makes up that lonely, mysterious club membership feeling.
The trick is that membership to such a club is very very costly. It consumes our most valuable currency - our life.
What to do About the Mysterious Club Feeling of the Ego
First we must understand that no such club exists, that it is a false projection of the ego. Even the ego feels itself to be a member of its own mysterious club. This particular mysterious club does not exist either, even if it feels 'good' being a member of such a club, it still does not exist.
Second, see that it is not so mysterious, everything can be known and understood about it and it is no way special, many people have and are doing what the ego does now. It is only the sleeping essence acting in a mediocre way.
Third, understand that this mysterious club feeling is the hypnotism and fascination of the ego at work.
Lastly, understand that it comes from the pride of rebellion, where we feel superior in some way for being different to the order of things, for having the 'courage' and 'character' or "I" or egoic individuality to rebel against the order that everybody else is blended into without particular identity or character or individuality.
Our Job
Our job is to uncover the mystery to not become fascinated and stuck within it.
What is the more interesting and mysterious thing to do, is to pierce the ego and understand it and free oneself from it. That is to find the mystery inside the ego and not make a mystery out of the mediocre ego. That is to be asleep.
End (2112).
