Humility is NOT to Take a Humble Low lying Attitude
We often think that to be humble is to lie low and take a
humble peasant like attitude, with a particular pose and facial expression.
Wrong!
From the consciousness in our psychology point of view, this
is just as wrong as taking a boastful, hero attitude.
Why?
Both are identities that we identify with. There is the hero
identity and the humble peasant identity. One is classically and clearly pride
as in the hero identity, and the humble peasant identity is disguised mystical hero
pride in wanting to be better than the hero by appearing to be humble, which is regarded as more spiritual.
Humility is the absence of both sides of pride, which in
practical terms means not to be identified with any identity.
Masters Are Not Masters to Themselves
For a master to consider him or herself a master is to have
an identity. They are really and truly humble because they are not identified with any concept or identity they are remembering their being which does not have any of
these false identities. It has the identity of what it truly is and that is humility. Humility among many other things is no identity. The Buddha is not the Buddha!
