Purity is Clarity which is Consciousness – (1391)

Normal Image Dashed

We normally think of purity in terms of people. That is, as someone dressed in white, someone who is a virgin, someone that is devoted totally to God, someone who only speaks of and thinks of God and heavenly things.

Well after all, it is only a concept of what a pure person may be like. There are other ways of seeing purity, especially those that are independent of people and our religious concepts.

Such an image of purity actually when I go inside of myself, I find that it does not help me, it actually brings one down. This is because we see that we are not this image or everything in this image and so logically our mind creates a thought about ourselves saying that we are rotten etc. But as this is a mechanical evaluation of ourselves we are not compelled to become more conscious of our rottenness and that way work on dissolving it. We instead just feel mechanically ‘bad’.

This post is about searching for a more esoteric and conscious definition of purity, that when one reflects on it one feels hope and is lead to work concretely on oneself.

Technical Definition of Purity

In Chemistry

Purity basically is one thing. It is the absence of other elements, usually foreign elements. In chemistry, purity is the amount of an element contained in a compound. 95% pure gold means 95% of the material under question is actually gold and the remaining 5% is the impurity, such as another element or a mixture of other elements.

Purity Relative

Purity is relative, purity is expressed relative to something. Within us purity is expressed relative to our Being or our essence. What other reference point could we use for purity? Perhaps we could use the ego as the purity reference point and say humanity is 97% pure ego and 3% essence or impurity.

However, purity has a very moral and ethical connotation. So purity in relation to our essence and Being is much more relevant to us as Gnostics, however as soon as we switch the reference point we get the opposite. So if we chose the ego as a reference point, purity takes on the opposite scale where people interested in becoming all ego will be interested in this type of purity.

To be clear we are interested in purity in relation to our inner Being and essence. Purity is for us as Gnostics is how much of the pristine condition of our inner Being dwells in us. Not that we drink pure water, wear white, have perfect health etc.

Moral and Ethical Connotation

Purity normally has like a moral, ethical or spiritual connotation to it. When someone is said to be pure we think of sex or heart or mind. Meaning that there are no stains or marks or blockages that obscure or darken the mind, the heart or sex, that would take sex, heart and mind away from their original pristine condition.

It is probably better to see purity as clarity, as the absence of stains, marks or obscurities. What is clarity? It is nothing other than consciousness!

When there are obscurities our consciousness can not function fully. Its functioning is hindered.

Purity as Clarity

If we see purity as clarity or the absence of obscurities, we see that any quality that does not obscure the essence is one which aids purity, and if purity is aided, clarity is aided and if clarity is aided, consciousness is automatically aided and if consciousness is aided, inner vision is automatically aided. If inner vision is aided then guidance and direction is aided as well and confusion and indecision is banished.

Purity Therefore Consciousness Aided

Honesty Aids Purity

Honesty does not obscure the truth, therefore honesty aids consciousness. It also makes sense that if we lead dishonest lives our consciousness will be impeded from developing. The more important honesty is the sincerity with ourselves.

Good-Will Aids Purity

Good will does not obscure the heart and the mind. It allows the good qualities of the heart to flow freely.

Dissolving Contradictions Aids Purity

Negative thinking and conditioned thinking obscures the mind. Contradictions obscures the mind as well and is not purity because contradictions are two things of opposite qualities.

Transmutation Aids Purity

Transmutation aids purity as it keeps the sexual energies within ourselves circulating within us unmodified by lustful thoughts (which really don't have much to do with the essence of sexuality or sexual energy) and Luciferic atoms that enter into our sexual system when the sexual energy is lost.

The transmuted energy is actually the raw sexual energy purified somewhat, so transmutation 110% aids purity and clarity and consciousness.

Conclusion

Purity is another word for unity. We can think of purity as unity in relation to something. In Gnostic terms (i.e. Gnosis as the reference point) purity is how much unity we have in relation to the Being or the essence within us.

If we want more consciousness we have to think about purity and work with the elements that aid purity. The more upright is our life the more purity and consciousness we can have and the more we can enhance what of consciousness we have.

Attention with Mind, Attention with Essence - (5197)

These two attentions are different. Attention with the mind tires the brain. and reduces the flow of life into steps, where it is inevitable that the narration of the mind begins to take over. With the awareness of steps comes a certain tediousness and the feeling of the flow of life leaving us behind. With the attention of mind very little of what's behind events comes to us... Attention with the essence brings the power of presence, in other words brings a certain depth and continuity of flow  Attention with the essence doesn't tire or strain and opens doorways into perceiving what is behind events and the thoughts and feelings that appear within us. It allows us also to flow with the flow of life, which is a pleasant feeling. Conclusion, make the essence bring attention to outer and inner life. End (5197).

The Sacred Substance Askokin - (962)

Introduction In simple terms, the sacred Askokin substance is the result of the mercury and the sulphur. It is the transmuted energy that crystallises to form the internal bodies (astral, mental and causal). In other words, it is the transmutation of our sexual energies. The Abrustdonis’ and ‘Helkdonis that Gurdjieff mentions in the excerpt below, taken from “Belzeebub’s Tales to His Grandson” are none other than the elements of mercury and the sulphur so spoken about in Alchemy. Excerpt on the Sacred Substance Askokin “I first learned that the destiny of beings arising on this planet of yours is chiefly to elaborate—by means of the process of their existence—the vibrations required by Nature for the maintenance of those former parts of the planet now called Moon and Anulios, when, do you remember, I became worthy personally to converse for the second time with His Conformity the then still Angel, but now Archan...

Wisdom from the Movie “Kingdom of Heaven” - (2168)

Introduction There are some movies that leave you with some pieces of advice that at point or another in your life or in the lives of others prove useful. This movie: “Kingdom of Heaven” was terrible to watch (too many battle scenes and people dying) but offered some very useful messages. In this post, I have presented a few, that have come in handy at point or another. Just to give you a bit of context, the movie is about the crusades, where the French and English were trying to defend the “Holy City” – Jerusalem from Islamic occupation. The topic of religion and God is a constant theme in the movie. It is very violent though, matching it frankly, quite awful to watch. Your Soul is in Your Keeping Alone An interesting dialogue between the French appointed king of Jerusalem and French Knight, the protagonist of the movie. Note, the king wears that metal mask because he has leprosy. King Baldwin I...
